(lat. meditatio = ‘to think, ponder, reflect’) is a spiritual practice practised in many cultures and religions, through which the mind can calm and collect itself. The effect of meditation, the meditative state, can be measured neurologically as a change in brain waves. The heartbeat slows down, breathing deepens and muscle tension is reduced.
Courses by Michael Marxen: Breathing meditation with preparatory yoga
Meditation modelled on the Buddhist Vipassana meditation is introduced practically and theoretically. Yoga asanas (postures) serve as preparation for meditation. Prolonged sitting is difficult for beginners. We therefore use walking meditation and yoga poses from the Iyengar yoga style to prepare the body and mind for sitting and to promote seated practice.
Meditation: Stillness and Movement
We will explore the topics of meditation and inner peace. The goal is to gain an understanding of meditation that goes beyond the mainstream and to practice techniques that help us counteract the daily sensory overload.
The focus will be on:
• Meditative movements from curative eurythmy
• Concentration exercises from anthroposophy
• Breathing exercises and sound meditations from yoga
