Historical fencing, HEMA, sword fencing, sword fighting, historical fighting... the list goes on and on. At the core remains the fascination for swords and fighting. For around 20 years, people interested in duels have been studying traditions dating back to the Middle Ages. It all started with understanding and trying out the traditional pieces and reviving the fencing techniques. In the meantime, it has also become a real combat sport, with national and international competitions. There are new types of fencing weapons that have been specially designed for the sport, as well as new types of protective equipment. Historical fencing is therefore the best combination of historical martial arts and modern combat sport.
