Tango Argentino is regarded by dancers as the “supreme discipline” among dances. It is a dance with many faces - fast and impulsive, lively and playful but also melancholic and sensual. Danced to classical tangos, tango nuevo, electro tangos or non-tangos, the Argentine tango is so multifaceted that it is able to express every mood and every attitude to life.
Unlike standard Latin dancers, the tanguero does not think in terms of fixed sequences of figures. Different elements can be combined at will like building blocks and allow the dancers a very personal variety of expression. As a result, tango thrives like no other dance on the interaction and creativity of the dancers.
The courses on offer teach all the important basic techniques of Tango Argentino as well as the underlying ideas of the game. These can be tried out at the dance evening (see below) in the Tusculum.
Bring clean and flat shoes! Shoes must be changed for the course (indoor shoes must be changed before and after the course).
There are no shower facilities in the TanzZentrum.
Registration in pairs is necessary - i.e. one person registers both partners: please enter all details for the partner
Registration of two women / two men only if they will be dancing together.

The courses are offered in 2 time blocks during the TUD lecture period and run for eight weeks per time block. New participants must bear in mind that the B block courses are a continuation of the A block courses (previous tango experience corresponding to the respective course description is required).

Beginners
In the beginners' course we teach the basic elements for good tango dancing. We start with tango-specific walking, dance posture and contact with the dance partner and teach leadership principles and various step combinations. We emphasize regular repetition and partner changes in the course so that you quickly gain confidence in dancing and learn to adapt to other dance partners. The aim of the course is for you to develop the ability to move to the music as a couple.
Advanced course
This course is for all those who already have a basic knowledge of Tango Argentino or have already attended a beginners' course and want to expand this knowledge. We will continue to work on the dance posture, deepen the leading impulses and work on the loose free leg. We will also work on the technique of basic elements (such as ganchos or sacadas). These can then be put together individually, like “building blocks”, to create a varied and exciting dance style. Our aim is to give you the confidence and technique you need to learn more demanding figures.
Prerequisite: You should have already attended a Tango Argentino beginners' course or be familiar with the open and closed dance posture, the cross, the moulinettes and the ochos.
Advanced
For all those who have already taken the advanced course or already have advanced knowledge of Tango Argentino dancing, the advanced course is just right.
In this course, challenging, advanced elements are taught. We will deal with figures that require tilting off axis (such as volcadas and colgadas) and teach complex figure combinations. We also want to teach you to incorporate embellishments and your own musical improvisations into the dance.
