Cross-Step Waltz
What if you didn’t have to know in advance what would happen a few seconds from now?
Cross-Step Waltz is a modern improvisational partner dance that originated at Stanford University. Over the past 10 years, it has spread across Europe and Asia — from France to Japan. You may have already seen it in La La Land: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OO0puW8AEps
And now Cross-Step Waltz is coming to Dresden!
Cross-Step Waltz differs from classical waltz not only in its basic turn, but also in the freedom it gives you to choose how to shape the dance. There is a wide variety of elements, but even a few of them are enough to create your own way of dancing.
The music is different, too: on this course, we will mostly dance to tracks from the 21st century.
Cross-Step Waltz is like a conversation through movement — curious, playful, and a little different every time. https://www.facebook.com/100003883488302/videos/pcb.3640733499399397/2160483494765443
On the course, we will learn to:
- perform the basic turn;
- use certain Cross-Step Waltz elements and incorporate them into the dance;
- improvise rather than memorise a fixed sequence of movements;
- lead and follow, build a better connection with your partner, and respond to their signals;
- switch roles during the dance.
In improvisation, there are hardly any mistakes. If something doesn’t go as planned, it simply becomes a small variation in the dance — usually unnoticed by everyone except the dancer.
No previous dance experience is required.
You can come on your own: partners rotate with every new track. Or sometimes even during an exercise, like here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkzKX1VwE6Y
The course is in English and is suitable for international students.
